I was born and brought up on the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad in the West Indies. My Scottish father, also John, was a plant superintendent with the Oil Refinery on the island and my mom was Irish. The family returned to Ireland in 1962 where I finished my schooling.
Currently I live on the South East coast of Ireland in the small Viking town of Wexford, a quaint town with its narrow streets and historic buildings, fronting onto the River Slaney. This beautiful river begins its journey high in the Wicklow Mountains some seventy miles away and spills into the turbulent Irish Sea at Wexford Town.
Photography has always been my passion and it became my career choice. As a professional photographer for over four decades now, my camera has taken me to many exciting and beautiful parts of the world. I have been privileged to meet and work with some most amazing people throughout my travels and been witness to great happening in nature.
My work has taken me to Africa, South America, Mexico and Europe and of course the Caribbean where I have experienced these regions of the world through my camera lens in a way that few people may ever get the opportunity to do: from the bustling crowds of the most urbanized cities to the inspiring adventures of remote places, sometimes full of challenges but always pleasant discoveries, involving people, cultures, the environment and nature alike.
As a Professional photographer with 40+ years’ experience in the field, I am still driven by my love of creating images that show the subject in best light for the commercial world we live in today.
My career in photography began using the analogue system, film. It was a complex process and it was always necessary to utilise my skill and technical ability, paying attention to the finest detail to produce the best quality work I could. This was sometimes very challenging, but always achievable.
I learned how to “see” detail and “understand” colour, to compose the subject in such a way to convey with impact the content and message in the shot. The old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” is a very true summing up of the ultimate goal in good picture making.
The use of modern digital photography has opened up a whole new perspective of imaging possibilities and I continue to develop in this area to supply my clients with the best possible options that will support their need.
My specialized areas of choice has been in the industrial, architectural, hospitality and portrait sectors of business and commissions have taken me too many parts of the world, working for small and large corporations, which has been very exciting in deed.
My business experience permits me to support my clients in the all-important area of organising a photography production as well as offering assistance and the co-ordination of Graphic and Print requirements for the complete job production.
Contact from existing clients who wish to explore imaging possibilities for new projects as well as new customers that are seeking something different, are always welcome. A chat about a forthcoming project or simply seeking advice costs nothing. The difference will be in the production of your project.
