Dates 2011 (TBC)

May and
September
Old stone buildings in rural landscapes, historic fortifications, Venetian architecture and quaint villages in rural settings, farmlands, olive plantations and vineyards set in a rolling countryside, all providing amazing photographic opportunities.

This is a practical, hands on workshop, guided and
directed by photographer, John Ironside FRGS.

The workshop is for the photographer who enjoys the outdoors, old cultures and architecture. The area in Croatia that we will travel to is Istria. Located in the northern region on the western Adriatic coast, Istria has a long tradition and culture evidenced by the numerous historical places still alive and preserved. Still today there are about 400 fortifications and castles from the bronze and iron age preserved around Istria. The general landscape is rolling hills with vineyards and olive plantations. The soils range in colour from terracotta red to brown making unusual contrasts as you drive along.

Our base will be an old Roman Fortifications about an hours drive inland from the coast. Located on top of a hill, a quiet and peaceful spot with spectacular panoramic views across the rolling countryside. From here you may relax and absorb some of this wonderful, un-spoilt atmosphere of this region of Istria. From here we will work out each morning into some very special towns, both inland and on the coast, returning to base for the evening where we can discuss the days
production. To help you relax, the accommodation comes complete with
wellness centre, spa and indoor swimming pool.

The restaurant in the accommodation has fine food, but there is also a small local restaurant which serves good food in a warm atmosphere. During the day, we may use some local eating houses for snacks and lunch. These are for your
own pocket and prices are very reasonable.
